Poland face winless run against Netherlands in Euro 2024 opener
Dutch team to miss key player as tournament kicks off
Poland will be hoping to end a 12-match winless streak against the Netherlands when the two sides meet in their opening Euro 2024 Group D match on Sunday.
The Poles have not beaten the Dutch since a 2-0 home win in the 1980 European Championship, and have lost seven of their last 12 meetings in all competitions.
The Netherlands, meanwhile, will be without key midfielder Frenkie de Jong for the match, who has been ruled out with a muscle injury. De Jong is one of three players who were part of the Netherlands' UEFA Nations League triumph in 2019 who will miss the tournament, along with Memphis Depay and Georginio Wijnaldum.
Poland will be looking to make a strong start to the tournament, having failed to progress beyond the group stage in their last two major tournaments. The Netherlands, meanwhile, will be hoping to improve on their performance at Euro 2020, where they were eliminated in the round of 16 by the Czech Republic.
