Gabby Douglas Returns to Gymnastics Training
Olympic Gold Medalist Makes Comeback
Douglas Announces Return in Instagram Post
Gabby Douglas, the first Black woman to win the highest individual Olympic gymnastics competition, has announced that she has returned to gymnastics training.
In an Instagram post on April 28, 2024, Douglas shared her excitement about being back in the gym. "Well guys it wasn't my best showing this weekend but was so happy and grateful to be back out there," she wrote.
Douglas' return to training comes after a hiatus of several years. In February 2023, WOGA coach Valeri Liukin confirmed to NBC that Douglas had been training at his gym. Douglas herself confirmed her return in July 2023 via Instagram.
Douglas' decision to return to gymnastics has drawn attention to the challenges faced by female athletes who seek to return to competition after taking time off for personal reasons. Douglas has spoken out about the importance of supporting women in sports and the need for more opportunities for athletes to return to competition.
